Bioretention & Rain Gardens

Bioretention Cells & Rain Gardens

Stormwater runoff can be managed using bioretention cells or rain gardens by allowing rainwater to infiltrate through several porous layers. Through these layers, several chemical and physical processes take place to prevent pollutants from entering the groundwater supply. Some of these processes include: sedimentation, adsorption, filtration, and decomposition. These areas are normally, but not always, landscaping features using native plants and a specific soil media. The following workshops will focus on ways to implement bioretention practices into your neighborhood or community.
